I prefer 5.8 to 6.8 myself.

I think I light burned/bleached the already mangled plant; their is a weird silvery area on a couple leaves so I lowered both plants an inch or so. I didn't think they were close enough to bleach at ~1.5", but I guess I got proven wrong again!

I had the same problem as you I have to use tap and straight from the tap its 7.2 but when I bubble it, it spikes to 8.3 big swing. I don't have any ph down atm but started using vinegar and the plants responded right after that first ph adjusted watering. I did screw up and tried to correct the ph thing in one go instead of a slow ph change down so the older growth suffered a bit. It is a bitch learning the hard way but I immagine its not a lesson you'll soon forget! Keep it going looks like you'll have some dank soon enough.

Yeah, I just went and got myself a couple gallons of distilled water to avoid the PH problem altogether; and they're only like $0.58 a gallon so you can't really go wrong. But experience is such a better teacher than anything you could ever read or watch so even if I manage to kill these plants, I'm just happy I learned a few good lessons. Also, your NL girls are looking mighty fine, I have to say.
But I was stopped by a nursery around town and noticed they had a sale on their soil so I picked up some Fox Farm Ocean Forest for the clones (whenever the plants are ready to get cloned, that is). I've heard some people don't have to feed their plants for a good month with it so I'm hoping it's going to be a bit more forgiving of my inexperience. I also used a mix of 25% Ocean Forest to 75% cheapo potting mix for my Dahlias, so that should kick them off well.
At any rate, I forgot to turn on the AC this morning when I went to go run around and when I came back, my thermometer hanging out at about soil level was showing ~95 degrees! I can't even imagine what it was at the top of the box about two feet up. It's back down to about 80 with the AC on, thankfully. I just moved into the desert from a coastal climate and the extremes are catching me by surprise still: we hit -3 degrees this winter and it's into the 90s every day now.

I would love to use distilled water but for some reason here they don't sell it at the stores don't know if its lack of demand or shipping costs but its quite odd cause in the states its fucking everywhere. Here they have stuff called still water that has like 250 ppm's and its all sodium and bicarbonate and I don't think my plants would benefit cause the tap measures at like 45 on the tds. 95 is bad and not optimal but hell I've seen plants out in 105 temps that came out fine def. not what you want but they'll survive. I remember the days of air conditioners one summer I just stopped growing till fall cause the electricity bill was to much and still had temps in the 90's those Cali heatwaves suck not mention all powere outages. Well keep us posted

Looks like a combo deal there heat stress, ph issue leading to nute lock out. Did you add a bit of lime to the soil? I always have lime on deck now just a bit of prevention ya know. Also with the added space from transplanting you should start seeing better growth!

I thought they would be pretty rootbound when I transplanted them, but to my surprise, they both still had quite a bit of room to grow. At any rate, the extra soil used to fill the extra space around the rootball is muuuuuuuuuch better so I'm hoping they're going to take off when they hit it.
If I had any seeds or clones or anything available, I'd kill the heat burnt one and start over as it's looking terrible. Don't have any leeway there, so I'm holding on to it until I can sex it. The other guy has pretty well stopped growing vertically and is bushing out like crazy. It's probably about a week or so before some clones should be ready for the taking, I'm hoping.
I've been watching my pH like a hawk after the damage it did before and it just keeps getting better; it's at about 6.2 now. I was under the impression that 6.0 to about 6.5 was good for a soil mix, is that about right?
What's lime in the soil mix do?

ph for soil is ideal between 6.5-7.0.....and dolomite lime is a good source of calcium and magnesium and helps prevent the soil from becoming acidic....

Repetitive feeding in soil usualy drags the ph with it making it more acidic, lime just neutralises it through out the grow.

Vertical growth has pretty well stopped for both plants as they're both just bushing out like crazy. I had thought that the roots hitting that new fox farm soil would be enough food for a bit, but I gave them a 1/4 strength feeding with their last water and they've grown a good half inch in the last 18 hours. The one that looks like shit is popping out some pretty huge fan leaves for it's size and condition that are dark dark green (well, minus the spot where I burnt them with light/heat). I tried to FIM the crappy looking one last week as it wasn't bushing out as much as the other but it looks like it was more of a FIM of a FIM, so to say. The new leaf set is kind of mangled, but still surprisingly healthy looking. At any rate, the bushing out is still kicking into overdrive so the desired outcome was reached!
Anyways, I'll throw some pics up later.
