At Petland and places like those you can get a cheap ph test kit that comes with ph up and ph down in the fish tank section. You use a lil tube to test your sample of water in, and drop a few drops of test solution (follow manufacturers instructions) into the "test tube" and shake it up, it will change color and you place it next to a card they give to see the PH that it matches with. If its too high, say 7.5 (ph of my tap), then you add a few drops from the PH Down bottle into your watering pail of water or nutrient solution( I always used a clean milk jug) shake it up, and test again. If I fucked up and went a lil to low, I would add a few drops from the PH Upbottle and shake then test. If I really fucked it up, I would dump the water or nutrient solution ( ex: water with peters 20/20/20). easy as mixing kool aid....
Thats how I phed the water when I grew my first plant. And got this...
I used Tap water and Peter's 20/20/20, ph'ed to 6.0 (lowest kit would read) in a soiless mix with compost. that I mixed up at home. I grew that under my mom's window so she couldn't see it when she looked out. It was a seed that came from some so called "pop corn" nugs that smelled like, well dog shit and skunk. Which is what my street smelled like for awhile the few months that followed. I started it in early to mid july and harvested it at the end of october, smoked in late november.
Gave a few nugs to the right people....well the rest is history.
