My First Grow Now Indoors!!! Need Tips, Tricks, and Advice: **New Pics 6/25/09**
    #232245 - 05/26/09 01:46 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

Ok so me and my friend are starting a outdoor grow. He had about 60 seeds saved up over the past year, so we decided to put them to good use.

A while back He had all rdy tried to grow a seed or two first by germinating it in a paper towel then transplanting in a cup with some soil off the ground. By just feeding it water it grew and sprouted and formed a couple leaves. Eventually he couldnt take care of it cause it was by his house so it died.

Now were trying again to do a legit outdoor grow (i know its late) i have been reading up on this website for information about growing for the past couple days.

I just came back home from scouting out a spot with my friend and we found a great one deep in the woods with a whole over it where sunlight beams down next to a nice stream. Perfect Spot. We planted 3 seeds (that we started germinating the night before) just in some mossy dirt. We then watered the spot and left

Now our next step is to germinate the rest of the seeds untill we see roots then proceed to put them in some soil and care for them untill we see them sprout and form a couple leaves then transplant them to our spot.

Now i have a few questions

When i transplant them i know im going to need to dig a whole and pour some organic soil recipe in with the plant. Ive seen so many recipes on this site i dont know which one to try or were to get any of the stuff i need like worm castings or fish emulsion its all very confusing.

The same goes for plant food when it starts to vegitate and then flower.

Plz help me send ur tips and tricks and recipes my way! Thanks
Pictures of the spot with be up soon

i think that you're thinking to hard about it. for a first outdoor grow especially in the woods you're deff going to want to make sure that your spot is secure, because 50% of the time while your watching your plants grow so are others. dont wory about your soil medium for an outdoor grow(for the ones planted directly into ground) as for the ones your starting and transplanting, use any organic soil and let it go. don't worry about nutes, mediums, or anything more complicated than the long list you already have to worry about. for now keep it simple and concentrate on making sure the plants stay yours and are not discovered by law enforcement or looters. good luck. and remember to keep it simple.

Ok update! 6/1/09

So far we have a total of 5 seeds that sprouted between two pots the orange pot has 3 plants and the green pot has 2. Meanwhile in the white pot one just sprouted today but is showing no leaves.

Also we have dug out our spot to grow in the woods today and planted 10 germinated seeds over there. We mixed some of the dirt with our ocean forest oil and then watered them.

I have some questions tho

The weather has been really nice and sunny this week so the plants are getting direct sunlight all day but what im worried about is that the nights are kinda nippy is that a problem for the plant or can they suck it up and deal.

And also are the plants in the pot too close to each other do i have to  transplant them.

You should be looking for a transplant shortly. I'm dealing with the same weather @NY and the cold spells at night, especially the one we got friday/saturday will stunt the plants a bit. Possibly stress them, too if the weather keeps doing this lake effect crap.

I've noticed of my 11 outdoors, that the ones that are closer to the more dense/wet-wet soil, are stunted, and are going VERY slow. The sunlight that we do rarely get, is after 11am-8pm. I have 4 different terrains/spots outside right now, WNY.
  (3) are in 10" pots, near creek. One of these was killed by slugs, and two are growing slow but steady@ 3.5-4.5" w/only the first set of leaves+ new node growth. One of them is stretching far though, so I had to flatten the taller weeds around it.
  (4) are in 50/50 natural and mix soil, in a dense/wet creek bed/valley. I lost one to slugs here, too. The combination of cold nights(40F) and heavy rains, they are the worst of the lot. I'm not very hopeful about these.
  (2) more are in the creek valley, but in drier soil, with much less direct cold wind. One was attacked by bugs, and was heavily damaged,[image align=right][/image] the other is OK but is stunted@ 3" with 1st leaf set+new growth(1cm).
My last outdoor spot is doing the best(so :derfase: far)of the Guerrilla Cells.
[image][/image]
These (2) are in a 50/50 local soil/mix. They're growing steady, healthier, and faster than the sprouts out in Ferngully. The differences in terrain are surely the cause. These two are out of the lower creek valley by 20'elev. in a semi-dense underbrush/Locust tree area, with little-lite moderate canopy. The flora feeding on the soil here is: wild rose, rasberry, blackberry, strawberry, and random Apple/Cherry trees. My spot here in "Locust Trail" is a semi-dry area, amidst rose/rasberry and Locust trees.
Being on the western side of an elevation drop, the sun hit's them directly at 9am or so, until 9pm/sundown. The higher elevation uphill from these sprouts is a corn/cow field. Everything runs down the hill and soaks up in this sweet spot. EVERYTHING grows good here, but it's location limits the amount of conspicuous plants that can grow here.

These last pictures are my precious babies. They're still inside under (2)CFL's @24hr, using two 65W/6500Kx2 at 1.5-2.5". I would hate to see more herbicide done to these plants, and I just can't take them out yet... They are still of unknown gender/strain, but they are doing 200x better than the OD's. One of them is really starting to get the skunk smell. I hope to get at least one fem outta' these ones. I started these pups on Fox Farm "Grow Big" nutes last night at 1ml less than 1tspn, per gallon, on Day 15.[image align=right][/image][image align=left][/image]

All of these OD and CFL plants were germinated at the same time. 15 days ago. I definitely recommend waiting until late-late spring before transplanting outdoors in upstate/WNY.

Good luck!:ganja:

Ok so a change of plans im moving outdoors to indoors. I bought a 600 watt HPS System with a Metal Halide Conversion Bulb for vegging and i am ordering a DR80 Grow room this weekend.

For now i have them under 5 regular bulbs ranging from 90 to 100 watts each.
