The new cabinet is almost finished, just painting it today. Made the cabinet a little bigger than I needed (2x4x4ft), so I split it into half and the other side is going to be some much needed storage. That leaves me with 16cf of grow area! My only real worry is ventilation as I plan on getting some carbon filtration and I don't think my 50cfm 120mm case fan is going to have the power to clean air AND keep my temps down. On the temperature note, I'm going to be doubling the number of CFLs I'm running to 12 for 276watts at ~19,000 lumens. Do you think my little case fan has the power to vent and filter all that? I'm hesitant to upgrade fans as I've already gone over my budget for the project and this case fan is virtually silent, which is perfect considering I'm going to be sleeping about 8 feet from this thing.
But I started germing 4 more seeds, 2 of which have already been planted and are showing their first sets of leaves while the other two are still in a damp paper towel. I'm not expecting those two to do anything at this point, as they've been in the towel for 4 days now. So, I'm hoping I do better on the M/F ratio this time as I'm now out of seeds and only got two sprouts. The two sprouts are chilling in their rubbermaid tub on 24/0 light. If I end up with a female, I'm going to turn her into a mama plant. I'd like to turn this into a staggered harvest type situation, but we'll see how things go before I start worrying about that.
Pics soon!

A computer fan won't be able to push much, if any, air through a filter. You need a different type of fan that can handle high static pressure. For that size cab you will probably want to go with a small squirrel cage blower (100-200cfm) like those make by dayton. If you want to keep it relatively quiet, a fan speed controller will be required as most of these fans are pretty loud.

That's what I was worried. Oh well, better to do it right then half-ass it I suppose.
With a fan speed controller, about how much quieter would a ~200cfm fan run at %50 speed? Unfortunately, noise level is pretty dang important. My goal is to keep it under 40db and I noticed the rated level on a ~200cfm fan is right about 50db. Would throttling down a 50db fan put me right about on target?

No, we're going with the "if you can't survive on 32cf of air for 12 weeks, you don't deserve to live" grow theory.
Seriously though, it's still a work in progress. Like you said, I have to make vent holes, finish caulking, design my light setup/fixture, get this beast into the house (I probably should have went easier on the 2x4 framing for the box as thing must weigh a solid 200lbs).
The sproutlings are doing well; their 3rd set of leaves is just starting to show. I don't think these bagseed are from the same strain as the last seeds as these guys are much darker, almost purple, actually.

So everything is just about setup; everything is moved in, my new light fixture is done, vent holes are drilled. All I need to do now is finish light proofing the area.
I'm up to 9 23w CFL's for a total of ~14,400 lumens. Seedlings are running into some PH problems again, but I think I've taken care of it. Our tap water is turning out to be the problem so I picked up some distilled water so we don't have that problem anymore. Definitely have two different strains of bagseed this time; one is just like the last 3 while the other is much purpler and compact.
Pics soon.

It is a nute overload, thats some major nitrogen burn. Flush those babies hard as hell and wait to add more nute till they brighten up. Also cut off any dead leaf material.

Can't be burn, I haven't fed them yet (at all) and their soil isn't nute enriched (as far as I know). The soil actually got flushed thursday, also, when I was checking my PH. I'm going to feed the lighter colored one tonight (finally payday!) and see how it responds before the healthier one gets anything.

I did, actually, at the very end of my last update. But I finally got the AC unit out for the year and my temps are down from 85 to about 80 thanks to the cooler room temperature.
The backyard garden took a hit this weekend as I evidently wasn't thorough enough in my watering Friday as when I got back in town Sunday night, my strawberry plants were pretty crispy. Thankfully I got back in time as they're perking back up today, but they looked pretty bad last night!

having your fan blow directly on the plants like that 2 much aint 2 good for the plants. ph8 tap? lol DONT USE TAP WATER! unless your nutes directly say to do so. Keep it up though dude, your growbox is looking good except for the fan. Before 2 long youll be a master grower

I actually just replaced that fan with a 4" version of the same brand as we needed the big one for the house airflow. But thanks for the tips, it's sucking learning things the hard way, haha.

A direct constant breeze isn't necissarily the best. However, if you have a fan that moves from side to side it's fine for the plants to get constant intermittant breezes.
As for tap water, it all depends where you live. Some cities use chloramines, some use chlorine. Some have hard water, some soft. If you live in the middle of a big city, yeah your water probably isn't that great. Otherwise, tap water may be just fine.

The kiddos are starting to perk back up big time after their feeding the day before yesterday: instead of a yellowish droopiness, they're picking back up and aiming towards the light again. Much happier!
I hurt my strawberries more than I thought I had; I figured the leaves would just regreen and keep on going but they're still brown and crispy. Luckily their new shoots are just blowing up in growth off the main stem! The new grape shoot is doing great too. A bird managed to take the top off of the main shoot, but the other stalks are picking up as a result. It's probably another month or so before I'm going to have to start it on it's trellis.
