Here I go,,,,,

Ok, I'm starting my plants on a 12/12 light cycle. They are in pots so I'm using 5 gallon buckets that are spray painted black to cover them from 8pm to 8am. Does this sound OK? Should I be worried about air exchange or anything like that? It would be relatively easy to move them inside my shed at night, but this way I don't have to move them.
I'm just worried because the buckets actually sit down in the pots because they are concave... thus, creating a pretty tight seal. Is this a concern?

The plant absorbs the oxgygen it needs from the root system and not from the foliar, so it should be alright. The plant actually gives off oxygen from the foliage! It sounds like a good idea until they outgrow the bucket;) Then you'll have to bring them inside.

the only thing you might have to watch is the humidity inside the 5 gallon bucket. as they come to the last weeks of flower you want it down to like 40%. if there's no air exchange it could hit high 90's and mold could easily set in.

a little bit of ventilation would be good to keep the humidity down and provide the leaves with a fresh exchange of air because the leaves breathe (C02)-carbon dioxide....if there is no air exchange, over time the plant will use up most of the C02 in the room ....and plants need C02 to carry out with photosynthesis.....so if you have no ventilation your growth will slow down....

This morning the plant looked fine, but had water dropplets all over it. I'm sure the humidity was high as hell in there. I'm going to try to ventilate it without causing any light leaks.

ventilation should be pretty easy, keep in mind a little light won't hurt the plant at all. Long before humans developed electricity plants grew under a sky full of stars and a full moon with no ill effects.

Yeah, I've always kept that in mind but so many people seem to insist that light-leaks are bad... If I poke a few holes here and there, it should be alright, I think.
Oh yeah, one more question, after she starts budding to I have to keep her on the 12/12? I assume I do.

yeah if you interupt the 12/12 photoperiod after it starts budding you will stress your plant

You might as well put your holes at the bottom (well it actually be the top) of the bucket so that the light that does enter only hits the pot.

I poked some pretty good sized holes in the bucket and checked on the plants a few minutes ago. A couple were droopy as fuck. No more bucket bs. I'm just going to put it in the shed at night. Dark as hell in there and just a little more work. It went from perky to saggy in less than 4 hours. That can't be good. It was pretty saggy this morning too, but not this bad. She don't like the bucket. haha

Yeah, it definitely doesn't help that it has rained every day this week here in Texas. Who'd a thunk it.
I've had to take some plants and put them on the back patio in fear of over watering. Not normal around these parts.
