 questions before i start

so my friend (really, my friend) is thinking about growing some tomatoes. i told him i would get him some info, because he is too lazy to do it himself, and im going to eat the tomatoes. so they might as well turn out good. i would like some advice for complete newbs. i read some stuff and got some answers, but not to everything.
he will be indoor growing and using soil.
some questions that arose
what kind of soil should be used. (i know organic is the best, but my friend is the lazy sort who is going to go to home depot or lowes. any suggestions at what would be the best available there?)
mediums?
i was going to tell him just perilite (left over from the booms) at a 70/30 ratio. sound ok?
nutes?
i dont even know where to begin with nutes. no knowledge what so ever. any suggestions for something available at home depot/lowes/possibly a nursery would be welcome
watering schedule?
i was thinking maybe twice a day? is that overkill? even with the 30% perilite?
lighting
i was gonna go with 24/0. anyone have a problem with that?
i know to use a fan of some sorts to add some wind to the mix
how to germinate? does putting the seeds between a wet paper towl in a dark place really work? how long should it be before i plant it?
should i plant in a dixie cup before a big pot? or does that even matter?
thats all that comes to mind now. any help would be great. like i said, im gonna eat the tomatoes, so they might as well turn out good.

plus this is a cannabis cultivation site, not tomatoes, if you're "friend" really wants to grow tomatoes he'd be better off browsing a forum meant for home gardening
