What seems to be the problem here???
    #208191 - 03/24/09 12:31 AM (15 years, 8 months ago)

What's up? Just wondering why my leaves are turning yellow / dying. They're at the bottom of the plants and I used soil rich in pre-added nutrients. I water on average once a day and mist twice a day. I read that it might be lack of light or nutrient burn. I think it may be a combination of the two. What do you think?

Going by the growth it looks like the plants were in low light and then the put into a brighter light or the light was lowered. What is rich in pre added nutrients? What is the PH? if it's off it doesn't matter what the nutrient count of the soil is.

There's 6 27w CFLs and a 15w fluoro tube in there, but the 15w bulb isnt always on, because it has its own switch and wont switch on with the timer. As far as the soil I have no idea, the bag said it had enough nutrients for 6 weeks. PH, also no idea, gotta buy some strips

thats only about 20,000 lumens, hope u got the lights close as possible, and in a small room cause u need all the light reflecting back. and u may be watering to much. growing in soil ya really only need to water ever couple to a few days, not everyday.

That looks like nitrogen deficiency to me. I used to get that on my tomato plants from time to time. It affects the lower leaves first.

The plants are close to the light, and they're in a growbox that's 3 ft tall x 2ft x 2ft. This is my friend's first grow and he's keeping it as basic as possible. He has had them on a 16 on 8 off light schedule for almost a month. He's a scrub and doesn't even know the spectrum, but he made sure they were the daylight variety. he basically based his growbox lighting on the pc growcase's setup, which has 4 of the bulbs he has in there. (he has 6).  When he approaches the full month he's going to start flowering. He's growing top 44, afghan x mazar, and bagseed (suspected indica). He plans on keeping 3 or 4 females. He has 11 plants going right now, but 1 is a bit runty and not healthy and I think the afghan shit either takes incredibly long to grow or he just doesnt have enough light for it. (it will probably die) I don't think I'm going to add nutes because of the soil, but should I add nitrogen anyway? And if so, best substance to do this with? What should his soil ph be? He watered once a day to try to flush the soil. He has cut down the water, though. Should he add anything to the water I'm misting them with? Should I just buy tomato fertilizers? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new to this, I'm used to raisin' cubies  Any help would be great, thanks

Have you fed your plants yet? They definitely look like they're working up an appetite for nitrogen. The pale green leaves and the yellowing older leaves give it away instantly. Give them a dose of high nitrogen plant food. Blood meal has worked well for my tomatoes in the past.

Hey, thanks man, yeah got some nutes and things seems to be going better. Just added them though, so we'll see. lol actually had to leave a friend's house where I was sterilizing 16 pf jars and run to my other friend's to add the nutes, and come back in time to seal and tape up the jars, which was craziness. Everything went A ok tho and everything is looking goooood

I am so crushed right now it's ridiculous. My plants look horrible! They took nicely to the nutrients at first, growing greener and looking stronger, but now they're all wilting, and 2 in particular look really bad! They've been switched from 18/6 to 14/10 over the course of a week and a half. I didnt mist or water yesterday suspecting that I've been overwatering and that backfired on me, the plants were still wilting today. I just watered with a low concentration of high N tomato food and misted, hopefully they wont be wilting tomorrow. My first grow is looking so shitty right now! The truth is I've learned a lot, though....such things as only watering when the top of the soil is bone dry, using more light, starting off with less plants, and what a nitrogen deficiency looks like. Next time I plan on keeping 3 feminized lowryder plants in the box on a 18/6 light schedule and use 4 soft white 23w CFLS and 2 daylight 46w+(Whatever the next watt size is) CFLS. Whaddya think?

Yeah, I think it was the lack of water on the leaves because I havent been able to visit the box at night because I dont want to interupt the light cycle. Notice in the picture of all the plants that the front two arent wilting anymore, and i just watered and misted.

Imo the problem is your soil mix, switch to LC's mix #1 and u'll be fine. Soils with pre added nutes are bullshit and most mixes arn't suitable for cannabis right out of the bag

Did I understand you correctly when you said that you water everyday? Thats probably the source of all your problems if thats the case.

Yeah, I thought about the water too, but I only gave it a little bit every day...but, then again, every TEK on the net says to water every couple of days, I just got water happy . Next time i'm going to have to watch that. I'm gonna buy some damn ph strips or a ph tester soon.
I just switched it to 12/12, so we'll see what happens. But hey, seriously, thanks for all your help, it is MUCH appreciated. I'll keep you guys posted.

Looks like the two frail ones are going to die, they haven't stopped wilting :frown: The two in the middle to the right look roughly the same, no better, no worse. Of course the lowly bagseed seems to be flourishing in spite of losing a good amount of foliage! I'm not going to water today, though  Also replaced 2 23w CFLs with 2 46 watters, hope that helps 'em. Sucks though, I lost so many leaves that some of the energy is going to that...Hopefully I have at least 2 females in there. I'm seeing some mushroom like formations on some of the nodes...look like very tiny balls on a stick....suspected males, but not completely sure, I'll post pics when they mature a little more.

Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Stop drowning your plants. You are going to end up with mold problems or more dead plants. Normally I water 1-2 times per week, when the top inch of soil is dry. The plants love it.
