 THC is destroyed by the liver?

In my substance abuse class, a video claimed that THC is destroyed by the liver and turns into other cannabinoids, and then those cannabinoids produce the high. I thought THC was supposed to be the most potent of the cannabinoids in pot, sounds weird that it would be destroyed immediately...
Later in the movie they also said "growers use the sensimillia technique to produce what is called skunk buds" 
I got to school in SF, and in the video there was a clinic that said they have been seeing more and more people solely for marijuana addiction. Randomly there is a ~35 year old in that class who has been working at that very clinic for over 10 years. She said that the only cases they see for just marijuana are ALL court ordered and she has never seen anyone come in for it voluntarily. The teacher responded with a weak, well thats not what they said in the film.
There is so much misinformation in that class its ridiculous
