Plant Disorders 1

Hey everyone! Welcome to the new forum. I thought we'd start off with a group project I have been thinking about for a while. We here at the Growery are lacking a definitive sick plant diagnoses thread, I intend to remedy that situation.
I'd like to have an entire section of static content to discuss the in's and outs of nutrients including when/how they are used in plants, what their deficiency/toxicity looks like, and common remedies with lots pictures as a reference. I'd like to do this with Ph, insects and diseases as well, so each nutrient, insect, or disease would get its own page in an appropriate folder.
In order to lend the entire project some continuity, we will come up with a pictorial diagnosis page in order to match symptoms, which will then link directly to the appropriate disorder's page.
What I need from everyone is some contributions of photos concerning sick plants; I need deficiencies, insect damage, stress, any dead or dying plant pics you have. As an aside, please don't steal the pictures off the web as I'd like all of this to be first hand if possible.
Any suggestions for the project are of course greatly appreciated. Lets see what you've got!

Definitely a great idea. A thought that comes to mind would be for a grower to take on a small project with clones, in which they use combinations of individual bottles of nutrients (for example, BioNova has a bottle of just P, of just Mg, etc.), and basically know which ones are being exposed to which circumstances in order to avoid a lot of guesswork about what is causing deficiencies when they happen to appear. Then, some pretty comprehensive information about isolated deficiencies, as well as deficiencies in tandem with each other, could be had. I'd considered doing this before and wouldn't be able to do this anytime in the recent future, but I'm tossing this out there in case anyone else might be interested.

Annom, thats fantastic! Exactly what I'm looking for!
I really like the idea of stressing clones, if I had the cash I would pick up the nutrient set you were talking about and start that up. For anyone looking to check out the mono elements, I don't think bionova makes then, canna does though.
Here are a couple of phosphorus def pics I took.
Not the best pics I've ever taken but they'll do for now.
Let's keep these pictures rolling in!

Yes, this is what we need: http://www.canna-uk.com/mononutrients
It's around $15 per element.

Well, just an update.
I've been working on this project a bit and have some of the diagnosis thread done now. You can check that out here.
I have some more pictures to edit and put up but I always need more so post them if you've got them!
Next I will be turning my attention to the individual pages where the bulk of the information will be. If anyone wants to help out by writing up some paragraphs like: in-depth symptom reports, plant usage (of the nutrients), cures and remedies, or intro/practical usage paragraph; it would be greatly appreciated.
Let me know any your thoughts guys, hows this shaping up?

Great start!
A way to insert pics/thumbnails, while keeping the link to the larger pic, is to copy them from a forum thread and paste into the article.
I never had many problem so no more pics from me for now. I'm willing to make some lab-rat-clones and grow them under CFL. What do you suggest me to test and make pics of?

Easiest things to do do with rooted cuttings would be acidic/basic soil and over/under watering. Those four alone would be great. You could also place a cfl nearly touching the top of a cutting to get some bleaching to show light burn.
Thanks Annom!

I can trawl through some of my textbooks and copy out some tables on common plant nutritional deficiencies if it is useful.

Here is an example of what I can get:
Deficiencies
- Uniform: Nitrogen (sulfur) * Clorosis (yellowing) - Between veins or spots: Magnesium (manganese) Adult leaves - Edges and tips Potassium * Necrosis - Between veins Magnesium (manganese)
- Uniform : Iron (sulfur) * Clorosis - Between veins or spots: Zinc (manganese)
Young leaves * Necrosis (or clorosis) Calcium, Boron, Copper and shoots * Deformities Molybdenum (Zinc, Boron)
Nutrient toxicity
- Spots Manganese (Boron) *Necrosis - Edges and tips : Boron, salinity Adult leaves
* Clorosis, Necrosis. Unspecific toxicity

Nice, you can certainly add those bullets to the diagnoses page. Even more helpful though if you have some decent textbooks would be to write up a paragraph on each of the nutrients as to how and where they are used in the plant. (ex: Magnesium is part of the chlorophyll in all green plants and essential for photosynthesis.)

I have 5 rooted clones that I probably don't use in my next grow, I can put them under 50 W fluorescence max. That light and space makes them grow like this:

Thanks again yrat, this is getting to be a two man show. I'll do the text in a bit.
On another note, I figured out how to add linked pictures but I can't get them to do the pop-out effect that they have on the forums, any ideas?

i believe the pop-up is for growery files only. i guess you'll have to save them and upload them if you want them all the same.
