I would have a better chance going to a fish store that exports to the U.S and ask them if I could throw a fish in with theirs, but it would be an incredible amount of effort for a $10 fish you could probably get down the road

Nice A. cacatuoides! Have you tried breeding them? It's pretty easy, rearing the fry is the hard part.
I'm going to be setting up my first fish tank in 4 years some time soon. I've been keeping fish for about 15 years. I used to have 7 tanks up and running, varied from heavily planted to predators to reef tanks. The setup I'm going to be doing is a heavily planted 35g hex tank. It's gonna be difficult working with the hex shape, but I'm up to the task.
I'm a 99% Shroomery poster, so I'll share some images of my old fish stuff that I've uploaded there:
And here's a few more of when I used to have piranhas. Not sure if the site they're hosted on allows me to embed images, but we'll find out...

Dude! Love all those pics!
Can't believe you had a Octopus, I want one sooo bad but I'm not ready to venture out into the marine side of keeping tanks. I love you're rainbows too, great coloration, I used to catch them down the creek when I lived up north
I haven't bred them yet as they have only been in the tank for a week or two, but I've got a fair few caves and pieces of wood for them the lay their eggs, now I'm just waiting!
Did you use Co2 in your planted tanks? those plants look ridiculously healthy and vibrant haha
Great work and please feel free to post more pics and hangout, we're much more chill than the shroomery

Looking at all these awesome tanks and fish I really want to set a tank up, I have a fairly small one I want to have a few small red fin perch in.. I can get heaps of small ones in the hills. How much is a filter set up?

Well they can get to 60cm and 10kg so you would have to have a big tank for them, 3ft at least while they're juvi's and then they would need a 6ft as adults.
But if you set up a smaller tank, like 2x18x18 you could get get one or two sponge/under gravel filters for like $5-$10 and a couple of air stones with a pump for like $20. Most of the money you spend setting up a new tank is tank then the chemicals you need, which wont be too cheap (Dechlorinator, active biologicals) and once the tank has cycled through and is ready, then you can get some fish.
Just gotta keep up with the water changes once a week and everything else should be sweeet

If I were to make another tank I'm not sure whether I could choose from African fish, or Amazonian fish...
Both places have amazing fish.
Oh wait..
I had a chance to buy some of those not too long ago when this store stocked them.
I'd prolly go with those tbh.
They aren't illegal like a pirahna since they can't survive winter months as easily in the wild.

Almost a month to the day and here's an update of my 6ft!
Got a bunch of Blyxa Japonica, which is actually a stem plant despite the fact it looks like a dwarf sword, the leaves are just that long!
Lots and lots of Anubias in this tank, different species of it ranging from Nana through to Barteri. And I just got another Green Tiger Lotus, its not looking great so I've put it in a make shift pot with a slow release fertilizer mix of cow shit, blood and bone and some clay to hold it all together until its soaked.
Here's some fish, one of my Hoplo Catfish, a blurry shot of my Ghost Knife (approaching 10") and some of my new Congo Tetra
There's a bunch of particles in the water because I just fed them and they were kicking shit up everywhere in their excitement

Nice! I always wondered what your name meant. I'm only just getting into African's, setting up a 3'x18"x18" for Tropheus soon but we just got some 6bar Frontosa's into work today and I fell in love with them! Shame they get so big, but they're definitely on the list for the future along with some Pundamilla Nyeri, such a sexy fish!
