Gaming laptop FTW

My laptop is so pimp.. http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?seg=HHO&poid=412522&coid=-33936
Only I installed XP on it and upped it to 4GBs of RAM.. fuck Vista.
Day of Defeat Source I get ~120 FPS solid with all settings on high.
Only thing is on the battery.. it runs down to 50% after about 15 minutes
Still fucking nice.
And yes.. I know I could have built a desktop that's twice as good for that much money. But that's not the point. I needed something I could take with me on the road, and this thing is a beast... best gaming laptop value in that price range by far.

I would assume so. it has 6 freaking USB ports, bluetooth, and a bunch of other shit.
The other badass thing about this laptop is the sound system. Most laptops have shitty speakers.. not this thing.. it fucking cranks. 4 Harmon Kardon speakers, with a subwoofer on the bottom. Fuckin a.

No.
And yeah.. it can get pretty hot after a few hours of gaming. But it has hella fans on it... 5 I think. I just keep it on my desk with a fan blowing in behind/underneath it to keep it cool.. when it gets hotter out I'll probably just stick it in front of the AC.
The other thing is 2x video cards in SLi. Yeah, you heard that right.. SLi on a laptop.

Is it really? It's pretty thick for a laptop.. about 2". And it's heavy too.. about 9lbs I think. But who expects a super thin super light laptop for heavy duty gaming really. This thing is a beast.
I didn't know anything about Toshiba laptops but I read a lot of reviews and this one blew everything else away in that price range.. I have not been disappointed.

$5000 would make an awesome desktop.
I used all high-end parts in mine, and I did it for under $3000.

what the hell do you all do for a living on order to buy a 5k laptop and not be hurt? 5k could finish paying off my car, well sort of.

Alienwares are really nice but they are generally way overpriced for what they are. Like, this laptop has more hard drive space and better video cards then that thing and it was half the price. That one does have a bigger screen though, and I would guess a slightly faster processor. But still.
And yeah for 5k I could build a fucking amazing desktop. I thought about building one.. and I figured for 2.5-3k I could basically build my dream gaming rig with all the highest end stuff in it.. but I decided I want the portability of a laptop more atm.

Laptops certainly have their advantages, especially when you can roam around town and steal Internet service at key locations.

Well.. since I can't play it for more than an hour or so without killing the battery.. I have to leave it plugged in. It doesn't get hot unless I'm playing a graphics intensive game for multiple hours. But name me a gaming laptop where the battery lasts for more than an hour and a half... yeah....
And I travel a lot so it's nice to be able to take it around in a backpack with me. There's outlets everywhere so I don't see the problem... I certainly couldn't cart my desktop around everywhere I go.

I got the first generation Dell XPS when it first came out. It was sort of a similar situation to this, although that computer is ancient now. I was totally stoked to have one of the best gaming laptops of the time, and wasn't concerned with how heavy it was (pretty much the same size as Shroomism's). Although it was occasionally irritating to have a heavy ass backpack when traveling, it was really nice to have a powerful computer always in my hotel room.

Ive heard really good things about the Sony vio's battery life. (6+hours) I havent really checked out the spec's on it though.
Personally I would rather just have a decent laptop, and an awesome gaming tower. I mean if your going to have to keep it on a desk to stay cool, and plug it in why not just get a desktop computer.

Vaios don't come in SLi.. and they aren't really ideal for gaming.
The reason I got a laptop is because I travel a lot.. I go to a hotel and bam.. plug it in.. instant gaming action. Friend's house.. plug it in. Who wants to cart around a big ass tower and monitor everywhere?
