My favorite way to smoke oil is 'hot knives'. You take two butter knives that you don't like/use, (they are forever blackened after this) and heat them up on the stove until they are red hot; get a pin and scrape up a match head size drop of oil, then heat the back of the needle so the oil gets runny and drip it onto one of the knives. Use a pen tube to 'hoot' up the thick stream of smoke that runs up from the knife. When it starts to cool down and the smoke slows, use the second knife to sandwich the oil and heat it up again to get a last blast of thick smoke. Heat the knives and repeat.
