supposed to cool off tomorrow to around 70 during the day...

it's still got awhile to go, but she looks really good for where she's at right now.  you should have quite the harvest.  can you get a centerfold shot of the whole plant?

Like I said, it's hard because of the greenery in the back drop to get a good shot.
My wife usually does the camera pointing, so I don't know how to use this thing completely.

I think your plant looks perfect. No nutrient deficiencies that I can see, no insect damage, and considering where it is in flowering, the stretch looks just right, nice dense colas, and no popcorn nugs.
Well done!

It was cold enough last night that we had a little frost in lower lying places, and it's supposed to do the same tonight.
I checked my girls this morning, and they appeared fine, but I've had tomato plants that didn't die until the following day of a frost...

Do I need to start covering my plants at night like I would tomato plants?

i've found that well established outdoor plants can survive light frosts.  keep in mind that's probably only a couple to a few degrees below freezing for not too long a time, so keep an eye on projected temp lows for each night. you might want to take action if it will be several degrees below freezing.

on the plus side, extreme cold and frosts really pack on awesome purple colors in the plants.

Yeah, I've noticed some purple developing on a plant. The white hairs are turning purplish. pretty cool.

I'd just hate to lose all my hard work to a little frost!

It smells like a skunk sprayed in my yard over night!! sweet smell from the bud gods!
My friend gave me the seeds, he kept them, but lost track of which ones they were, but he did tell me that if he kept them, then they were definitely worth growing. I trust him, so we'll see what happens when it gets toked.

Yeah, I am not too happy with our weather here either... it's starting to dip into the 40's quite frequently here at night.

This is my first grow and I am trying to keep everyone here posted on my progress so you guys can tell me when to harvest these babes.

I'm headed bear hunting this weekend, and will be gone a week. Do you think they will be alright? I have made sure they were watered when it was hot and dry, and now we just got rain all weekend, so I know I am good for a few days, but I am not sure about next week when I am away, although it is "supposed" to rain on Monday and Tuesday, so I shouldn't have to worry huh?

I'll just miss my fertilizing day is all... but one week shouldn't hurt.

I usaully water mine every other day but we to have gotten much rain in the last week. Also the temps did get down to 39 the other night but no frost.

Im just hoping they will be done in time to finish budding before it gets to cold. If we are in th same location im pretty sure that right around october the indicas start to finish up budding. but were pushing a fine line!:smirk:

okay, here is an update... I was away for 7 days bear hunting, and didn't have anybody around to mess with my plants, so today I went to check on them, and here is what I found... The buds are getting really thick...
How long do you guys think I have until I have to reap? When I do reap, how should I dry the thick buds?

this one is my largest producer so far...

This one is the other that is looking like it is producing well...

See I am new to growing my own, and I don't know shit about caring for the plants when everything is finished...

I am looking for the best techniques for good drying and curing processes.

wait until 70% of the hairs turn color, that means they have reached a peak potency! Than cut at the bottom stem, hang them upside down, trim off all the bigger fan leaves.

drying takes 2-4 weeks.you will want to hang them in a cool dark place with some ventilation. after there dry (a branch will be able to snap with your fingers) trim them up more(manicuring).

then place them losly in some sort of glass canning jar for up to 4 more weeks, no more than 6 weeks making sure you crack open the jars daily for a couple hour to exchange gas for fresh air. the end result will be of superb budz!

I just got done reading the cannabis grow bible going on to read the breeders bible, a must if you want to get serious about growing good cannabis plants! it also shows how to make hash using the left over plant material used in trimming the buds so nothing of your hard work goes to waste! hope this helps out bro.

so if I put the plants in my basement, should I use a dehumidifier to help draw moisture out? maybe run it on low? use a fan to have air movement? I have a large basement.
Also, will an IONIZER help with the smell?

Alright, mainly good advice but I'm gonna go ahead and make some points.

Quote:

wait until 70% of the hairs turn color, that means they have reached a peak potency!

Hairs changing color CAN mean that pot is ready to harvest or it could just mean the hairs are changing color. The best indicator is the trichomes on the bud. If you have a magnifying glass lying around look at your plants. There will the trichomes (stalked glands) sticking up all over the bud and some leaves. Now depending upon what kind of high you want depends upon when you harvest.

Trichomes come in three flavors: clear, cloudy, and amber. Most people advocate harvesting when some of the trichomes turn amber. What percentage is up to you. Do some searching .

Quote:

after there dry (a branch will be able to snap with your fingers) trim them up more(manicuring).

Most people say to manicure before you dry cause cutting off dry leaves near the calyx is a bitch and you end up cutting off more bud than leaf.

Quote:

then place them losly in some sort of glass canning jar for up to 4 more weeks, no more than 6 weeks making sure you crack open the jars daily for a couple hour to exchange gas for fresh air.

Yes place them in an air tight jar. Yes burp them every day for a few minutes to help remove excess moisture. BUT you can leave them in there for WAY longer than just 1.5 months. I've heard of people giving bud a 6 month cure minimum. I've heard of people finding lost stash from 2-3 YEARS ago and it being some of the best tasting bud they have every smoked. So you can leave them for much longer than that.

good points, im no expert at this ive only been doing it for a couple years outdoors to see "what happens" only recently have i taken it up as a hobby. Its true about the hairs because i have some purpule hairs on mine and they arent ready quite yet. Ive heard that to about manicuring before drying but i kinda do a quick manicure(by quick i mean about an hour and a half ) before drying and than when dried i do the final one, some of the smaller leaves can be left on because they have so much crystals on them.

Really depends on how good you want your buds to look. or how you do it i guess.

ive also heard about people leaving them in jars or forgetting about them or evening putting them under earth, but im always to exicted and want to smoke! so the earlier the better for me!

I would hang em up down there and get a fan and turn it on low under them to get some fresh air to em. if the temps are below 45 or so and Rh isnt very high id just play it out and let them dry normal. dry slow product is always nicer than fast dried. but at the same time you dont want them to get moldy! you wouldnt have that if the temps are right tho:confused:

Okay, I have a dilemma I need help with.

I have to go to Texas for a few weeks for work... What would the worst that could happen in this time frame if I didn't harvest the buds at the right time?

Should I harvest now and dry them out or just wait till I get back?

Thanks for the reply, now it looks like I am not going to Texas.

Boss just called, and FEMA was allowing truckers to help with the clean up and restructuring the Houston/Galveston areas...

But they put a limit on how long and how many trucks and men you can have down there... So they cut us short. Oh well.

So now I'll be able to keep a close eye on my plants the last few weeks of the flowering stage.

okay guys, I need some advice again...  the weather here is getting cold enough to frost the grass in low spots, and my plants are pretty well developed, I bought a microscope from RadioShack, and looked at the buds, it appears that the trichomes are getting cloudy...
Should I harvest now and beat the frost? or should I let them go a few more days???
It's supposed to warm up in a few days... but after that who knows what will happen!!

All replies are helpful...

yea man my got hit with a lite frost one morning and it was a pretty shitty day, it almost seems like they are growing faster and are budding even better! try it unless its suppose to get in the low 30's!

Its suppose to warm up here to get into the 70's so thats why i left mine.

***EDITED***

So I decided to  pull my plants, and here is what I came up with...

I hope I did a sufficient job trimming, I know it took me a long fucking time!!!!!!
I hung the branches up on a line and I have my ionizer, and a small fan to circulate the air in my basement.

How long should I alloy them to hang before I put them into a paper bag? Or do I have it mixed up?

OOPS, I forgot...the main cola is 16 inches long, and has a diameter of 3.5 inches... Is this good? I think it is

IF your happy with the results it is good! i personally think you did well for the conditions expercined, next year start em up early inside around march or april and you should get mature buds before it gets cold.

When they are done drying you should cut em up into managable peices basically just the buds, then can them to cure open the can a couple hours a day to let gas exchange.

The trimming looks good thats how i like to trim because the leaves tend to get baked with THC anyway!

the better trimming the extra hash you can make!! the buds will still get you stupid, but a  good trimming can't be beaten by anything else.
