Is it necessary to completely dry all this trim I have or can i just go ahead and make butane oil with it and will there be any difference to quality/process by using it fresh. Thx

just throw it in the freezer to help maker the heads brittle. With my last batch of oil i made i didn't dry the trim, just cut it right into a tupperware and let it sit in the freezer. Came out just fine.

The drier you get the material, the easier it'll be to get the good oil you want. I'd dry the stuff the regular way, then put it in a dehydrator to finish it off.

that's more the case with bubble hash, not solvent hash.

Depends on the solvent, I guess. Acetone dissolves water, butane doesn't.
So you're saying it doesn't matter in this case?

how do you mean acetone dissolves water? Do you mean it absorbs it? No, it really doesn't matter since you're not trying to separate the heads from the leaf matter for collection. Solvent hash is an extraction, you're extracting the THC from the trichome heads not collecting the heads themselves. Even if you did use a solvent that absorbs water, at worst you just add a slight amount of time to the evaporation process.

also, i'd like to point out, unless you're buying anhydrous acetone it already contains water

What I mean about acetone is this- when I made hash oil, all the goodies were in the acetone (not anhydrous, just regular Wal-Mart stuff). Then as the acetone evaporated, suddenly the water came out of solution, and then I had a bunch of water in my drying dish.
The oil didn't dissolve in the water, of course, it all came out and was a big sticky mess until I could evap the water.
Just seems like having more water would be more hassle, that's all. I can't say I've tried it with leaves and butane, just buds and acetone. But I'd sure try to dry the stuff better next time.

dry out your acetone with some epsom salts too, that will help reduce water left over in the extraction process.

you buy epsom salts, bake them in the oven until they turn into an ashy like substance, and then you add it to the acetone and let it sit for a while. The water will be absorbed by the mg sulfate you created.
