So, I decided I would grow some Afghan Kush

But I have a few problems. I live in the desert, and I'm in a small room.
I don't know if I'll need a hydroponic set up for this, so I was wondering what would be the best way to go.
Oh yeah, I'm new. I was refered here by Gastronomicus at the shroomery. He said "ask for Coaster."

how many plants do you plan to grow? and how big is your space? you never "need" a hydro set-up, it won't really cut down on space or heat. if this is your first time growing, i would go with soil. with the hot climate, your main concerns will be choosing a light and ensuring good ventilation

Hehe, I would go through a whole ounce in a week (yep, I got to this point), so I'd say about five week supply!
There's a fan in my room, just gotta make some ventilation to the outside I guess. I heard some holes need to be larger, and some smaller. Which ones?
On light; that's the biggest issue. Dunno what I can do about that except find a heavy curtain to block off my space.
Anymore advice is appreciated.

Actually, a four month supply would be better.

Heat is always a problem for me, and I don't even live in the desert. You don't sound very serious about growing anytime soon but here is what you will need when you finally do.
If you use H.I.D. lighting, at a minimum you will need an inline fan + an aircooled reflector. Vent the hot air from the reflector outside or into the attic. You need a window mounted AC unit for the summer either in the grow room or an adjacent room were the intake air will automatically be coming from as you pump the hot air out.
You shouldn't even bother with hydro in that kind of heat unless you know what you are doing and you have the money or time to keep all that water cool enough. Also I don't know what you mean about some holes being bigger or smaller. I'd make them as big as my vent ducting was which would be based on the size of the inline fan or the AC flanges I was using.
p.s. I have nothing against coaster, but I doubt he knows too much about growing weed monsterman. Just smoking it.

Thanks. I am definitely on a budget though, that's why I can't even get an ounce of this stuff!

As far as being on a budget goes CFL's may be the ticket, and they produce little heat.

if you can't afford an ounce, then right now your only option is CFL's. an HID fixture, ballast, bulb, ducting and fan will cost you much more than that. and that's before nutes, carbon filter, soil, pots, pH test, etc.

if you can't afford 400$ right now, you're better off waiting and saving up some cash. Nutes, lights, soil, pots, ventilation, ducting, timers..... It isn't a requirement to spend this much, but when i started up I dropped 1,000$ on my setup. If you're looking to just produce a little bud to smoke on, CFL's will work just fine. If you're hoping for a nice supply, you'll need to look into HPS lights which cost $$$ Ballast, bulb, and A/C reflector can easily run you 500$ alone.

Growing is expensive.
A good 600w-1kw setup with vented reflector is going to run you around 600$.
Coco + coco nutrients = 300-500$.
Ventalation and other shit....

Did you buy a truck-load of coco, or what?

my canna nutes cost 330$
got 5L of a/b and 1L of all the rest.
I think I got 250litres of coco.
And I also bought some general hydroponics nutrients.
My friend hooked me up with his old equipment which came with some Sensi and Foxfarm nutrients.
I also have composting worms

Only 5L of A/B? How many different 1L bottles did you buy? Insanity!
Worms are cool.

Have you done up any worm bins before?
I'm wondering when I harvest, I have a lot of castins in my bin but also have bedding mixed in and a layer of cardboard ontop.

Coda, I'll send you a personal message. I'll put in a picture, and hopefully you have some advice.
