wouldn't E=MC2 explain the creation of the universe? if matter and energy are interchangeable then all the matter of the universe came from some cosmic energy.

Another interesting point: e=mc2 deals with mass and energy. But what is mass really? If you buy the Higgs-Boson idea, then how does the rest of matter enter into this?

But it's an interesting point to think about... I guess string theory could account for it if you don't mind the idea that we're living in about a dozen dimensions. I'm hoping that CERN will soon confirm or deny the higgs boson idea.

But if you just stop for a moment and think that we're trying to analyze that which we, ourselves, are made up from - it's like pulling the rug from under us.
For this reason alone, I doubt we will ever find the answer we're looking for.

I like the one that says we're living in infinite dimensions, according to some quantum crap.
Can't remember the details, but the gist of it is every time there's a decision to be made in the universe, like the flip of a coin or roll of a dice or anything down to a molecular level, the universe splits itself into as many dimensions as there are possible outcomes. Each new dimension carries out with one of the outcomes until it's time to split again, and again, and again. So in theory, there are infinite dimensions, where every possible thing that could ever happen is happening.
The theory on time travel according to this view, is that since there are infinite dimensions, there must be one that is exactly like the one we're in now, only say, 1 year behind us. So if we could travel to that dimension, for all practical purposes it'd be time travel, but anything we did there wouldn't affect the one we came from....the changes would stay within that timeline and the infinite new ones created within, so on and so forth, ad nauseam.
So according to this theory, there's a dimension out there run by a master race of these:

i think it will be at least a couple of years before they can confirm or deny it's existence.
i think most people expect major breakthroughs immediately and i just don't think they'll come right away.

the problem with your understanding is you are thinking of drastic changes and mutations like an extra limb that just appears in one child and become succesfull there are evolutionary changes happening in the human race as we speak they are subtle yet most of them harmful and due to modern medicine we keep dirtying our gene pool by letting the weak survive and reproduce when they should have died ie midgets people with aids fat people with short legs who could never outrun a bear are just a few examples.
The reason you don't see many changes is because you think that this happens overnight when infact a slight evolutionary change may take thousands if not millions of years.
